Bernese Mountain Dogs originated in Switzerland and get their name from Berne a city in the Swiss Alps.  They are considered a working dogs but have a gentle good natured attitude.  They are very family oriented dogs that love to be around people.  Berners usually do well with other dogs and animals.  Their gentle nature makes them great around children.  They are intelligent and trainable dogs that respond best to positive reinforcement.
